Day 2 - 6 April 2021

-General Teambuilding

It is 5.00 pm CET. The link is published in the announcement channel. The session was finally starting. The months of preparation led to this exact moment and Lyon 2021 was just about to start. Ah, every session’s beginning always makes me a little tense.

We are in Zoom now. Tens of people are looking at each other: excited, curious, hopeful… I am looking for some familiar faces. Eventually, I see a couple of media team members and other officials. The waiting is over with the Head Organisers. These amazing two people welcomed us with a very warm sincere smile. After briefly saying hello to us, we started playing a

game that we all know, heads and tails.

Every person turned off their cameras when they had failed to guess right. Well... I wish I didn’t get eliminated in the first round. In the end, we had a winner. Head Organisers told that there will be a reward, an exciting prospect. I am still wondering what it is though. Next stop, we are introduced by our president, Andra. After she introduced herself, it was her turn to lead a game. The game was called Speed Dating. (quick parenthesis here: Speed Dating is a game where you enter a breakout room together with other participants and answer a specific question. Each round the question and the breakout rooms changes) This is one of my favourite team building games. Three rounds, three questions and meeting different and amazing people each time. It is perfect.

These games created a really comfortable atmosphere. We met a lot of new people. I am sure we will meet them later on. I even saw a few familiar faces from previous sessions of mine!

Last but definitely not least, it is my team leaders’ turn. We are working quite some time together but I would be lying if I said I was not excited when I saw them. After they let everyone know who they are, they kindly introduced us (the media team members) too! After that, it is time for another game.

This game is all about us. They ask us to bring objects of significance to show each other. One of the prompts was: “one thing that you would show off at a party.” We had a Finnish hat, guitars and lots of plants. Right now, I am still upset I couldn’t find my snow globe that is also a jukebox. Maybe next time.

At the end of this meeting, it’s Eike’s turn. Our lovely editorial assistant. Even though I know what he is going to show, I am still hyped, seeing people’s reactions to our first pieces of content showcased at the session was exciting.

A trailer created by our team was shown, explaining what EYP is and how it makes us feel. EYP has had a very positive impact on me, that I am not alone. There are lots of people who just feel the same. Though, the final video might increase the expectations high.

The final video of today was the We Are Lyon video showing us that we are all from different places, different backgrounds and we are different people. All coming together for the same purpose. At that point, I knew our expectations would be fulfilled.

The end of the video gave me “Chills, literal chills.” But with Jake Peralta’s voice.

-Committee Teambuilding

When I entered the room, teambuilding had already started. My chair asked her committee to change

their names to something they like. I decided to change mine to dancing, I especially like to dance to the song “Single Ladies.” After learning about each other’s favourite song, the delegates were asked to express their moods using a picture of a dog!

When I next visited, they played “I am special because…” to see what made them unique. I turned off my camera a lot. So I decided to leave. Guess I am not as unique as I thought I was

-Opening Ceremony

The last part of day one was the opening ceremony. The ceremony started with our president introducing the lovely Head Organisers. It was emotional and motivating hearing them speak of all the hard work that went into the session I believe Moragne put it perfectly when she said “We were 3 at the beginning, but now, we are more than 80.”

The ceremony continued with the Editors speech, EYP France’s President, safe person and finally our president, Andra. She mentioned the resilience of EYP, the resilience of us and our passion. And finally, she officially opened the LYON 2021.

We ended the call with the European Anthem.
